Dísablót 2025

February 2, 2025

The date for the viking celebration of Dísablót is uncertain. Some sources say it was celebrated at the beginning of winter. Others say at the end of winter on the third full moon after the solstice.

Dísablót was a sacrificial holiday held in pre-Christian Scandinavia, honoring the dísir, which are female spirits or deities, and the Valkyries. This tradition aimed to ensure a bountiful harvest and was mentioned in several Old Norse sagas, including the Hervarar saga, Víga-Glúms saga, Egils saga, and the Heimskringla.
