The first day of Þorri, which is the fourth month of the old Icelandic calendar, is marked by Bóndadagur, or “Husband’s Day.” The month of Þorri, known since at least the 12th century, is traditionally associated with the Norse god Þór. In modern times, Bóndadagur has continued as a day when wives treat their husbands exceptionally well, which is believed to bring good luck to the home and farm. This tradition sets aside the day for pampering the man of the house, and it remains a cultural practice in Iceland.
