DESCRIPTION:The Alaska Scottish Club is once again hosting the Alaska Scottish Highland Games on Saturday\, June 24th and Sunday\, June 25th\, 2023\, at the Alaska State Fairgrounds. The games have become a popular annual event for those who enjoy watching feats of strength and athleticism. This year’s event will feature various Scottish-themed activities such as bagpipes\, heavy athletics\, Celtic dance\, drumming\, kilted mile\, scotch tasting\, tea tent\, salmon tossing\, Highland Coo\, tug-of-war\, vendors\, historical demonstrations\, musical guests\, axe throwing\, and children’s events. The Alaska Scottish Highland Games are a celebration of Scottish culture and tradition\, and provide a unique opportunity for Alaskans to experience a part of Scotland in their own backyard. With so much on offer\, the event promises to have something for everyone to enjoy. We hope to see you there!

The fair will take place over two weekends: June 3-4 (Pirate Themed) and 10-11 (Fantasy Themed)\, from noon to 8 pm. The fair offers a wide range of activities including combat\, entertainment\, crafts\, and culinary delights. Each year\, visitors are honored by the Barons: Red\, Green\, and Blue\, as they compete for the privilege of winning the relic associated with our shire\, the Spear of Hillthelstan the Bold. You can determine the winner by voting with your wooden tokens\, and each day a winner will be announced for the celebration of all. \nDon’t miss the Tournament of Champions\, where you can witness live action chess game play out before your very eyes. The Barons and their entourages will compete just like weapons clash on the chessboard. There will be enough thrust and parry\, wit and steel to keep you at the edge of your seats. \nCome observe the Society for Creative Anachronism as they demonstrate armed combat during fighter demonstrations at any of three different time slots each day! \nMerchants Abound at Hillshire market\, where you can experience culinary pleasures and artisan treasures. Take part in games of skill\, find a sword\, or wand\, or clothing meant just for you. Come visit and delight in the many tastes and wonders their vendors have to offer.
